Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between net and gross price?

Net is the price before VAT. Gross is the price after VAT has been added. When removing VAT, the calculator separates the included VAT from the gross amount.

Why does a country have more than one VAT rate?

EU countries set their own rates within the EU framework. Reduced rates or exemptions may apply to particular goods and services; the preset is the standard rate for general estimates.

Can I use a reduced VAT rate or a rate outside the EU?

Yes. Choose Custom rate and enter the rate that applies to your item and transaction.

Does this tell me which country’s VAT I should charge?

No. Place-of-supply rules, the type of transaction, customer status and special territories can affect which rules apply. Confirm your case with the relevant tax authority or an adviser.
