HD Background Remover
Create a transparent PNG cutout from a photo. AI inference runs on your device, and the export keeps the input dimensions up to 25 megapixels.
How to use it
- Choose one JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 25 MB.
- On first use, let your browser download the AI model (about 42 MB). A browser without WebGPU may also download a larger processing runtime; these files may be cached for later visits.
- Select Remove background and wait for the local AI processing to finish.
- Review the transparent preview and download the PNG.
Limitations
- First use downloads model files from Hugging Face and may also download the WebAssembly runtime. This requires an internet connection; the image itself is processed locally and is not uploaded.
- AI masks can miss fine hair, transparent glass, shadows or similarly colored foreground/background areas. Inspect the result before publishing.
- Input images are limited to 25 MB and 25 megapixels to protect browser memory. Older devices may take longer or run out of memory.
- The model predicts a foreground mask at a lower working resolution and scales it to the original image size. The PNG retains the source dimensions, but this does not add detail missing from the model mask.
- EXIF metadata is not retained in the output PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Is the photo uploaded to a server?
No. The AI runs in your browser. The model weights are downloaded from Hugging Face on first use, but your selected photo is not sent there.
Why is the first use slower?
Your browser downloads and initializes about 42 MB of model weights, and browsers without WebGPU may need a larger WebAssembly runtime too. These files may be cached for later use.
Will the cutout have the same dimensions as my photo?
Yes, up to the 25-megapixel input limit. The AI mask is estimated at a lower working resolution and scaled to the original size, so very fine edges may need touch-up.
Can I use it for professional product photos?
You can export a full-size transparent PNG, but inspect edges and shadows carefully. The AI can make mistakes and may need manual refinement.
